Yes tell them you have a Burning desire to get this job, but don't confess to being a pyromaniac :)

Seriously good luck to you :)
Good luck! Getting the interview is half the battle!! Just be yourself and be sure to have certain examples of jobs you did available. Also, a lot of employers in this field are looking for teamwork related things, so have some examples of when you used teamwork.
Confidence
Don't smoke
The fire service is a worthwhile job but, there will be many hours of boredom when you are just sitting around waiting for something to happen.
sure,if your British have a lay-in instead of wasting your time.
Ex husband of 19 years is a Fire Chief. He has been to plenty of interviews (then shared with me, of course). Know your stuff! I would suggest that you answer each questions as thoroughly as possible without adding anything extra. Don't BS, if you don't know the answer say so. If you really know where you could find the answer you could tell them that. They like people who take the initiative to seek out answers to questions. Be truthful and confident in your abilities. Try to be politically correct in your responses and your demeanor. If the Panel that is interviewing you is low keyed mimic that demeanor. Don't be afraid to laugh at one of their jokes, but I wouldn't go on a joke telling spree just because they start it! Don't get too personal in your responses. Getting the interview is most of the work. Don't be too bummed if you don't get the job. Usually lots of people apply for these types of jobs and they only have so many openings. Get plenty of sleep. Good Luck!

P.S. Don't eat garlic the night before the interview!!! ;-)
