I will be leaving the U.S. Military in a few days with 20 yrs of military service. Any employment advice?

Any advice that anyone can provide concerning employment upon completion of my military service will be greatly appreciated!

Only from experience at my former workplace, I have to ask if you made all of the accommodations to transition back to civilian life. I knew a sergeant in logistics with 7 years as a drill instructor who spent 24 years within the service - he had a difficult time transitioning back to civilian life.





That said, my number one question is if you still retain or had a security clearance. If so, the website ClearedJobs.com or ClearanceJobs.com is suited to look for positions for just that. I only say this because your security clearance is highly coveted and is of great asset to companies like Lockheed, SAIC, etc. The search through there is quite easy and you can easily command a job which earns $20k more because of it. Especially someone with a paralegal background in the greater DC area would make some beaucoup bucks working at a firm like SAIC. After a cursory search at SAIC.com (http://www.saic.com/career/) I found 4 positions immediately under a title of paralegal.





Couple of things I would do - convert your security clearance paperwork and especially your honorable discharge paperwork into electronic format (PDF) to send to potential employers immediately. If they know you're the real deal, this process moves much faster. I would set up a profile under http://www.clearancejobs.com/ immediately so the potential employers can find you in this process. The travel industry is in boom. You'll have more opportunities in aviation and your military service gives you an edge as it gives prospective employers the perception that you are disciplined and can work under pressure. Good luck!
Most people usually go into the police force or fire services, they wil lwelcome you with open arms.
Hummm... with a paralegal background and Liberal Arts degree, you might try looking for a middle manager slot in a small company.





Something else you could look into, if you are interested is, the CIA is desperate for former Military and you are still young enough to talk to them... not necessarily for Case Officer work but one of the support specialties.
A man with very wide ex poser and experience, that too considerable duration, Best will be, Security Chief - *** - Legal Adviser in Five Star Property or with Corporate Head Office of reputed International Chain of Hotels and Resorts.





You better get your self registered with Reputed placement Agencies and leave it to God. I am sure you will soon get a Job most suitable to your Qualification and experience. You may consider an assignment with reputed detective and Investigation Agencies.
