Workouts or advice for the fire service.?

Currently I am a Female Firefighter. I just joined my company, I am in Fire school and love every minute of what I do. I know its a hard job and very competitive. Any advice from other firefigthers male or female, or recommended workouts, that will make me stronger not bulky, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.Workouts or advice for the fire service.?
Lay out a hundred foot of charged 1 3/4 line. Put it over your shoulder and walk it out.

Set the tip down and go back to the other end and pull it between your legs till you get the tip back.

Repeat 5-10 times.

Run stairs. Pull weight sleds. Practice swinging hammers and axes. Run, in general.

My typical routine now consists of one hose pull, both ways, two flights of stairs and ten military presses at the top of the stairs with about 60 pounds of weight. I do that 5 to 10 times.

My departments';Gauntlet'; consists of a 100 foot hose pull, a 50 foot low crawl, two flights of stairs and ten hammer swings. Four reps and you'll be exhausted.

Be creative. Anything you do at a fire turn into a workout. It'll build muscle memory and stamina.

My partner's a firefighter. My recommendation, especially for female ';firebugs,'; is to focus on upper body strength conditioning. That's what you'll need the most to pull and run hose.

There are all sorts of workout routines so pick something that keeps your interest and motivation up. My favorite is cardio-kickboxing since it works your upper body the same way that a boxing routine does. However, you pick something that's right for you, for your lifestyle, and for your body type.

Good luck to you.
